OCCASIONAL BULLETIN # 124 – MAY 26, 2017
Dear VOCS Members:
While you might still be welcomed as one of those annoying very very late signer-uppers for the BRD, we at VOCS have now moved on to enlightening VOCSians about the next big event of the VOCS “Summer” Season the annual Garden Party that loves to have as many small VOCSian descendants as possible attend – what has come to be known, somewhat rudely, as the “Kidnic”.
THE SEVENTH ANNUAL CHILD-FRIENDLY GARDEN PARTY AND PICNIC – SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 2017 FROM 2:00 TO 4:00 PM IN THE GARDEN OF RUSSELL AND GILLIAN SMITH AT 2040 S.W. MARINE DRIVE IN VANCOUVER
Those of you who took part in the last two Kidnics, held at the old United Kingdom consular residence, will be well aware of what fun it is to meet in a lovely garden for a party welcoming Summer. Sadly, the old consular residence has been sold by HMG, but very happily, VOCS members Russell and Gillian Smith have very generously offered VOCS their grand garden on South West Marine Drive for the 2017 Kidnic.
The Kidnic is a splendid opportunity for VOCS members of all ages to renew friendships and make new ones. This is particularly true for members with young children who share both the Oxbridge Experience and that Having Kids in Vancouver Experience, and who so often are held back from other VOCS events by parental duties.
There will be amusements offered to the little people as well as plenty of yummish picnic treats, including ice cream! For the big people, there will once again be lots of Pimm’s No. 1 and lashings of tea and teatime goodies, including the usual cucumber sandwiches, egg sandwiches, scones with cream and strawberries, and so on.
The insignificant cost of attending this jolly gathering will be $15 per big person and $0 for little people. If you are attending, please be in touch with our President, Alan Lund, at *protected email* and pay at the door / garden gate. Cash is preferred.
Dress, weather permitting, is Summery with University and College accents, if available. Beyond that, we at VOCS leave what you wear to your good sense and discretion.
A good time is expected for all!
See you there!
Cheers from us at VOCS……
